Let It Catch Your Eye

A note from Dr. Hendrix

This little poem is a reminder I have to keep giving myself: you spend your whole life earning the view, then walk right past it — while real beauty waits in some small detail, like the chubby cheeks of a baby. I wrote it because the eye that still catches the detail is the one thing I most want to keep as I grow old.

You work all your life to have a view After a while you walk by as if there were no view But beauty is a detail that catches your eye Beauty can be anywhere there is a detail that catches your eye What made my chubby little babies so cute My chubby babies had chubby checks that were cute My mind glances at the total view but usually doesn’t take time to catch the detail I tell my mind to stop and respect the eye capturing the beauty that’s in the detail I’m always looking down line to see the end view I’m looking at a butterfly’s wing and I’m clearly seeing the end view
