A note from Dr. Hendrix
This is a plain word to my younger readers about getting older: a day comes when much of what you do is think about what you did, so you had better do it wholeheartedly now. I wrote it because you do not have to win every race — you just have to finish them, a little beaten up from the trying, so the remembering is good.

Just wait,
there will come a time when most
of what you do
is to think about what you did.
You want to be happy?
Dig hard to do
whatever it is you do.
Then it’ll be good
thinking about what you did.
Don’t get me wrong.
It’s not necessary to
win all the races.
It’s only important to
finish
the races,
beaten up a bit from the try.
Even then, you’ll
think you should have
tried harder.
When the time comes
when what you do is
to think about what you did,
be kind to yourself when
you’re thinking about
what you did.
