Green Tea: Lesson 13 Abundant Energy

We all know the drill. The midday crash. You have a 4:00 deadline, but you are missing one main ingredient: Energy!

Of course the easy thing is to head for the vending machine and reach for your favorite sugar loaded snack. You know this will only last for so long and inevitably, when you finally get home, all you want to do is take a nap.

Enough! Ditch the sodas, cappuccinos, and candy.

The average American drinks about a gallon of soda each week.

The problem? A 12 oz. can of soda contains around 10 teaspoons of sugar. Sure, they are ok for a quick pick me up, but they will leave you flat after the sugar rush wears off.

Sodas are a major factor in America’s obesity epidemic and can cause tooth decay.

If you are the type who reaches for an energy drink, did you know there can be more than 60 grams of sugar in just one can.

Perhaps your weapon of choice is a latte?

At around 600 calories for a regular vanilla latte, you can see why this is a bad idea.

So, what should you drink?

Aside from water, green tea is the most consumed beverage in the world.

The green tea specific antioxidant known as EGCG has been shown to have thermogenic properties which in effect, raise your metabolism and in turn give your body much needed energy.

Natural, sustained energy.

Watch out for bottled and canned teas, as many are high in sugar and calories.

Next time you need some afternoon pep, reach for green tea, and rid yourself of the junk beverages.
