Green Tea: Lesson 11 Aging Gracefully

As you read this article, you are aging. Every second of every day, your body is going through the process of aging.

We look to our skin as evidence of aging, but wrinkles and age lines are only what we see. The tissue underneath your skin is aging as well.

What causes us to age?

Researchers have theorized and tested for years, to pinpoint the cause of aging. One theory is the Free Radical Theory of Aging. Free radicals are formed when oxidation occurs in the body.

Free radicals are unstable molecules which travel through the body, stealing electrons from other molecules, and leaving wreckage in their wake.

The free radical singlet oxygen turns fats in the body into peroxide. This peroxide is a trigger for cancer, heart disease, diabetes and other diseases associated with aging.

The older we become, the more peroxide is produced.

What can we do?

Many scientists believe that by controlling these free radicals, we can minimize the production of peroxide and thus, put up a stronger fight against the perils of aging.

EGCG, the antioxidant specific to green tea is thought to slow the aging process by removing the free radicals that damage the body and push your body to age.

Not only is EGCG shown to protect your body as it ages, but protect and enhance your overall wellness throughout your years.
