A note from Dr. Hendrix

Over a billion people smoke worldwide, and half will die from it, which is why I wanted to share what research suggests green tea’s polyphenols might do to help. This lesson is about quitting and about limiting the damage. I share it because if this humble leaf can ease even a little of that suffering, everyone deserves to know.

Dr. Roger Hendrix · We share these stories so you can know the family behind GreenTeaHP.

The World Health Organization estimates that over 1 billion people smoke, worldwide. Half of them will die from it. Lung cancer is a leading cause of death, globally. Most of these are caused by smoking. How can green tea help? The polyphenols in green tea have been linked to the ability to quit smoking; as well as reducing the damage your body takes from the toxins in cigarette smoke. This is just the start. Here are some finer points. When people quit smoking, they gain an average of 6 pounds, because the nicotine in tobacco activates your metabolism. – To counteract this, people who drink 4 cups of green tea burn up to 160 more calories per day than those who don’t. This can help compensate for the lack of nicotine. One of the reasons smoking is so harmful, is that is breaks down your immune system. – On the flip-side, the high levels of antioxidants in green tea boost your immune system. The reason many people give for smoking is that it has a relaxing effect. In reality, the relaxing feeling is that of relieving your nicotine withdrawals given to you by the cigarettes. You might call this a self defeating cycle. – Alternatively, green tea contains L-Theanine, which has been shown to have natural relaxing and anti-stress effects. Withdrawals not included. What are you waiting for? You can quit. You can. Quit.
